As a reminder, Service Canada will no longer be issuing 16-digit reference codes for applying for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. Please see attached instructions from Service Canada.
Occasional teachers and LTOs wishing to apply for EI benefits will not need to request a Record of Employment through the Payroll Division. Payroll staff will automatically process ROEs for OTs and LTOs after final pays have been produced. Final pays for these groups will be on July 19th so ROEs will be processed starting the week of July 22nd.
ROEs are submitted electronically to Service Canada so it is the employee’s responsibility to log into their own Service Canada account to obtain a copy. Due to a high volume of phone calls and emails around this time of year, could we please encourage your members to check their online accounts to view the status of their ROE? If they can not see it online, it means we have not processed it yet but are working as hard as we can to get them out as quickly as possible. Any claims related questions can be directed towards the EI Call Centre at 1-800-206-7218. Any payroll related questions can be directed towards email@example.com.
