Collective Agreement Ratification

Congratulations to our OCEOTA CB Committee and Bargaining Team for all their hard work. This Local Agreement endured a long and interrupted process to be finally ratified on Nov 18th (OCOETA members) & Nov 23rd (Board of Trustees). Implementation of the new 2019-2022 Collective Agreement is immediate, but the process to publish it for members takes longer. The negotiated changes have to be inserted, edited, and meshed with the Central Collective Agreement portions to make a single fluent document to be signed. These administrative procedures will likely take until January to complete.

In the meantime we would like to share just the newly negotiated changes, somewhat without context of their full articles, that will be added to the current Agreement. You can download the exact changes here in Appendix A.

Some of the highlights include:

  • L14.03(a) Previous external teaching experience (both LTO/contract) will now be recognized for your grid rate.

Note: Any change to credited experience shall be made effective the month following the month in which the statement is received by Human Resources. (Get it submitted before the end of the month!)

  • L14.03(d) Daily teaching experience in OCDSB will be recognized for your grid rate in the following school year

  • L11.02(c) Up to two (2) one (1) year extensions may be granted to a Leave With Out Pay (LWOP) upon request for Pregnancy, Parental and Adoption Leave and spouses of deployed military personnel.

  • L14.01 Retroactive daily rate increases back to Sept 1st, 2019 for all daily assignments worked by members.

  • Letter of Understanding: Pilot project in 2022-23 to have minimum 0.5 FTE daily assignments only.

  • L14.08(a) & (c) Where the teacher to be replaced is present and OT unneeded, the employee will be paid 0.5 of the daily rate for all assignments of 0.5 or greater and paid for the full assignment if less than 0.5 and assigned professional duties during their assignment.
